Riccardo Muti sends a second message to Putin
NewsThe Chicago Symphony conductor used his podium to reinforce his condemnation of the Ukraine invasion in a direct message to Vladimir Putin.
‘Send back your bloody tanks, and give back freedom, dignity and integrity to the glorious people of Ukraine,’ is his message.
Next time he should add: “…and give back freedom, dignity and integrity to the glorious people of Russia, too!”
They need to do that for themselves. The protests in Russia need to increase in size.
Gustavo. You are missing RM point. He’s not commenting about the Russian citizens, he’s talking about the Russian leader and the governmental cronies who support him. Putin feels justified and happy to injure, kill, destoy homes, waste millions in money all in the name of his own psychopathy. He can’t get over the fact that the Ukraine is an independant country. Any psychiatrist who offered a diagnosis would be destroyed….just what psychopaths do, which is what makes him one of the most dangerous leaders in our world.
or the CSO audience who are still in face crotches and passports.
Your comment is irrelevant and stupid.
. . . in almost equal amounts (stupid wins).
So happy to see very strong statements from Garanca, Gheorghiu & Beczała.
All are indirectly/directly showing their disapproval with Netrebko’s hypocrisy!!!!
These are the real opera stars, it’s time for overrated Anna to be kicked out of all international stages

Fine statements from three fine singers, but:
Elina Garanca is Latvian
Angela Gheorghiu is Romanian
Piotr Beczala is Polish
Easier for them than for Anna Netrebko to condemn the Russian war against Ukraine.
Many Romanians, Latvians, Poles (and others) still remember what it was like to live under the influence of an alien, totalitarian regime so they sympathize with the Ukrainians for good reasons.
Hade hon tagit Ukrainas parti, skulle hon vinna världens sympati och dessutom många fler konserter dessutom.
Väldigt beklagligt att en som fantastisk opera sångerka försvara psykopaten.
Signor Muti, resign and give back decorum and respectability to the office of the CSO Music Director.
Not the right time for this mate
For this topic, it’s always the right time.
Give it a rest, Mr. Johnny One-Note.
A$$hat
Signor Insider, shut up.
Long live Muti!! He will always be my Chicago conductor.
cute. he thinks Putin cares about musicians opinions.
And you think that about Muti. Cute?
Yes, and that’s exactly the fate of Gergiev. The second he criticizes Putin he knows he’s in real physical danger. What surprises me is why the western world isn’t calling out Putin DIRECTLY as a dangerous LITTLE paranoid, just like that North Korean thug.
And he probably does not give a fig about apostrophe’s.
narcissists.the lot.
Gergiev is gone. Muti is not silent… But where is the no.1 fancy new conductor with Russian ties in all of this?
Has Courrentzis condemned the war? NO. He has a huge, probably the largest Russian-backed grant for the orchestra, connected with now banned everywhere VTB bank.
How is he still enjoying the good omens of the leading German orhestra? Who will call him out for my Ukranian musician friends? They are literally under fire now, this is not a hiperbole.
I did. I wrote to everyone I could. Will you support me? Will Norman feature him in a post finally?
Good points Andrey to which I would add that Currentzis is a complete charlatan.
While Valery Gergiev remains completely silent.
If I remember, critics of Putin the past have found themselves dead. I still well remember the unfortunate people in the UK who were hit with deadly toxins by Russia. In another country, if you don’t mind!!!
If musicians made a Mephistophelian bargain they’ll be regretting it right now and many in real physical danger for wanting to ‘cancel’ the bargain!!
That’s fine, but they can’t expect keeping gigs in NATO countries either – can’t have it both ways.
Starting my timer to see how long it takes before chicagorat, csoa insider, lothario & C. chime in with their anti-Muti antics. We are all anxiously waiting for their Pavlovian response in reading the name Muti
You didn’t have to wait long (see above)
Yup, they were way faster than the comment approval time 😉
Yep. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUgMZv_7_sk
Yes! How did you get to possess footage with the typical post-rehearsal routine?
Post COVID, more pre-concert. The upper echelons have implored to keep it off the grid, but still with their compliments.
Looks like you can turn off your timer now. They have all commented, and the surprises were limited. Kudos for a spot on prediction!
You missed it
They are all truly mentally ill if not outright evil people. And sadly – predictably – several were among the very first to comment in this thread.
CSO can rot in hell. Freedom? Chicago has lifted mandates and yet a child can not see the CSO unless they are wearing a mask and have two vaccines? Screw the CSO and Muti for talking about freedom. My child loved the CSO, he has cancer and can not wear a mask per Doctor’s orders. Fcuk the CSO. I curse them.
Oh this is getting fun!
a) In October 2021 (pretty recently!), in the headquarters of the Russian Embassy in Vienna, with an official ceremony, Maestro Riccardo Muti was appointed Honorary Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Arts
b) The honor was awarded by the Russian Ambassador to Austria Dmitry Lyubinsky
c) Since 1997 to the present day, the RAA (Russian Academy of Arts) has been headed by Zurab Tsereteli
d) Zurab Tsereteli has been heavily criticized throughout the duration of his career, with public opinion heavily shaped by his involvement with the Russian government. In March 2014 he was reported to have signed a letter in support of the position of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin on Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine.
e) Zurab Tsereteli is a great artist. One of his greatest creation, which surely live on to immortality, is the Putin statue you can admire here:

Shall we say: “Mr. Muti, give back your bloody honor!!”
Someone on this blog said Muti is a fugazi. There could not have been a better word to capture the essence of the man.
Had he really lost his honour, maybe this statement serves to restore it to some extent?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUgMZv_7_sk
That’s footage with the typical post-rehearsal routine! How did you get it? Call Harvey Sachs, he will write a book about this to make the pair with Toscanini’s letters!
How easy it must be to sit at your keyboard in judgment.
Yikes, that’s not a good statue. And I think the artist got it completely wrong. Surely it shouldn’t show Putin with bare feet and clothed chest instead of (the correct way) of him having booted feet and bare chest? /s
C’mon Steve, we all saw yesterday that you convinced him he had to say that for PR reasons since he felt way short the first time … that’s cheating, and doesn’t count! 😉
lmfao…or maybe he has way more guts than you ever will
Pavarotti had guts, if you know my meaning. Not him.
As much guts as Bill Clinton’s intrepid cigar.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUgMZv_7_sk
Just wandering how they convinced him. He seems like a guy no one can tell him what to do.
And had he not said a word, you would all have pissed and moaned anyway, like bitches.
He knows the meaning of the word integrity. Who would’ve thought.
That being the case, he keeps company with many millions of Americans and others around the world!!
integrity? please, a child is not allowed to see the CSO with a passport and mask. The CSO can rot in hell.
As they used to say about George Patton: he may be a blowhard, but he’s our blowhard. Like Patton, he may only be useful for this duration, then it’ll be time to turn over the reigns. But then again, Patton may be looking down from above (or below) and saying to us, “I told you so”. Irrespective of any that, good on Muti. It’s an important step at this moment.
Who is us?
Like Trump, he is a blowhard for blowhards. You are not speaking for me. I can’t stand the man and am eagerly awaiting for his demise, which will come soon … just a little bit more patience. I know many former CSO patrons who share my view.
The CSO sales are pathetic, no surprise:

Has any of the illustrious anonymous Muti bashers ever substantiated any of their allegations in here? Or even just mentioned a specific case of misbehavior of which they have first-hand knowledge (i.e., as opposed to parroting something read in a gossip rag)? There are few things as ridiculous as anonymous slanderers posing as supreme arbiters of Moral & setting high bars for others.
Looks like someone from America has substantiated with a solid VIEW on this very thread!
Assuming that “someone from America” indulges talking in third person, is that all you got?
agreed, it’s absolutely ridiculous. i have yet to hear anything concrete or substantial come from any of these online trollers. i guess they just can’t handle someone who has more professional success than they do?…lmfao
Oh I’ve heard.
