19 jump-ins save last night’s Vienna opera
NewsWe’re hearing that last night’s Peter Grimes was almost called off after 19 members of the Vienna State Opera chorus tested positive for Covid.
The night was saved by members of the city’s Arnold Schönberg Chor who volunteered to sing at very short notice.
Heros.
This large-scale jump-in was helped very much by the fact that the excellent Arnold Schoenberg Choir had recently sung Peter Grimes just down the road at Theater an der Wien – so they all presumably knew the score, literally, by heart.
I came here to find out how they were able to sing Peter Grimes “at very short notice,” so thanks for providing that important little detail!
There have been seven posts about the Vienna State Opera since just Jan 25.
Since when did it become the center of the opera world?
Since about the 1860s. Ask any Viennese and they’ll tell you…………….
which city/company would be your pick?
I wonder whether you ever lived fully to know the opera world, Where else if not Vienna for being the center of opera?
That’s Vienna.
Heros? They are South American fish, I understand.
I go every other year to Berlin. Even with the plane ticket it’s more affordable than the met. Only the most egregious of eurotrash productions bothers me now
Does Berlin performance come with English subtitles?
