Death of two baritones, born in the same month
RIPThe Italian baritone Gianni Maffeo, a frequent partner of Pavarotti and Freni, has died just short of his 83rd birthday. He was born in Vigevano on March 30, 1939*.
The Spanish baritone Antonio Blancas, a partner of Domingo and Carreras, has died in Valencia at the same age. He was born in Madrid on March 13, 1939.
Another source says 1936.
Never having heard Gianni Maffeo before, I was impressed by these excerpts. As Jack Rance and Carlo Gerard, he has the true Italian baritone sound and phrasing. Thanks for posting this.
