Another Finn stick, 21, is rising
NewsA young fellow called Tarmo Peltokoski has been named principal guest conductor of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, an outpost of Paavo Järvi’s in Bremen.
He made his debut with the Finnish RSO in October 2020 and has since conducted the hr-Sinfonieorchester in Frankfurt, the Latvian NSO and the Basle Chamber Orchestra. He has global management with Dorn Music in Germany.
Peltokoski has been studying with Jorma Panula since he was 14, followed by stints with Sakari Oramo, Hannu Lintu and Jukka-Pekka Saraste. The Sibelius Academy factory is still churning them out.
Any day now, he’ll start growing a beard.
This kid’s good!!
I used to think it was just policeman who look younger and younger.
If MGT was a junior assistant conductor at 25, should the post of baby principal guest conductor be created?
Dave: Believe me, this kid is NOT Lorin Maazel when he was seven 😉
It’s great to have young talent! I admire the organizational risk-taking. Or have they figured out that youth draw audiences? But why not? Wasn’t Lorin Maazel 7 when he first conducted?
Yes, and Charles Munch 42.
It seemed to be necessary to establish the gender in the first sentence.
One cannot be too sure these days.
