Invitation to the NEW YEAR’S CONCERT press conference on 29th December 2021 at 13:00 at the Hotel Imperial

A 2G+ certification is required for attendance at the press conference (vaccinated or recovered, plus a negative PCR test made within the last 24 hours). An FFP-2 mask must be worn at all times and strict assigned seating will be observed. Access to the press conference will be granted at the Bösendorferstrasse entrance to the Hotel Imperial at the rear of the hotel, across the street from the Musikverein, upon presentation of a green pass (or PDF certificate) and a photo ID.

We kindly ask you to register for the press conference in advance…

  • Ed Gordon says:

All press conferences of any importance these days are also available virtually, even if electronic access is controlled by issuing a Zoom links only to specific participants. But not the VPO’s press conferences?

Similarly, Zoom and Skype connections are becoming de rigueur when conducting interviews for many publications. No need to get two busy persons into the same space.

  • LPJ says:

No No No… this is endemic now. not pandemic. get the shots if you want (vaccine is a misnomer at this point), loose weight, take your vitamins and eat well but enough. really stop with this BS. this has trashed my career. move on people

    • operacentric says:

There was a jump of 20,000 new cases in the UK yesterday as the new variant, which is up to 70x more transmissible, started to show in figures. Vaccine + booster gives about 75% protection. Vaccine over 3 months ago gives around 10%. Take vitamins and lose weight if you want – can’t hurt, but will do little if anything to affect your response to Omicron.

      • Pierre says:

Sheer unscientific propaganda! BS. All numbers are fake info.

        • Maria says:

Fine, then take no notice of them. Why are you crowing! Get on with your life, and good luck. Maybe go and live somewhere in the continent of Africa where so few are vaccinated and see how you get on – even Nairobi in Kenya.

    • Nick says:

You are absolutely and categorically RIGHT, LPG, 1000%!!!
STOP THE BS, boycott the idiots anywhere and everywhere, beat them by their bank accounts, and move on!!

  • Peter San Diego says:

    Seems quite reasonable.

    • operacentric says:

Totally and in line with any similar event in Austria at present.

      • Anonymous Bosch says:

Not quite: this is “2G+” which requires proof of vaccination and/or recovery, PLUS a negative PCR test. There must be an error in the time window, as it usually takes about 24 hours to get results from any of the many free PCR tests /or longer:there is a huge backlog). You can get a “Schnelltest” at your Apothecary for about €49.

But theatres/concert halls are under “2G” rule, plus FFP2 mask: you need to show proof of vaccination and/or recovery and wear a mask for the duration of your stay in the building, including during the performance. A PCR test is not required.

But – as was shown yesterday in Frankfurt – these rules can change in a matter of hours.

Websites for the theatres/concert halls ask that you check the government requirements on the day of your performance.

  • What news is there anyway in the New Year’s concert? The news of who will be conducting it the next year? I would grant myself access instead at the Kärntner Ring entrance and take a fast left into the CafĂ© Imperial for a leisurely coffee and Esterházy-Schnitte.

  • Zenaida says:

Standard procedure for attending practically any cultural event these days in Austria and Germany.

    • Pierre says:

Go to cafes and restaurants instead. Enjoy life. Beat “cultural events” with lack of $$$$$!! Let THEM feel the heat!!! Support only those who have a free mind and common sense!!!

    • Anonymous Bosch says:

I can only speak for Vienna, but as of right now (16.12.21; 13:11 CET) the government has dropped the idea of demanding a negative PCR test taken within the last 48 hours for entry to a large pubic gathering.

I just checked the websites of Wiener Staatsoper, Theater an der Wien, Wiener Konzerthaus, Musikverein and my beloved Burg Kino (where I will see Joel Cohen’s “The Tragedy of Macbeth” on Christmas!), and all are currently operation under “2G” rules: you need show your ticket; governmentally-issued proof of vaccination; a government photo ID; and wear an FFP2 mask throughout the duration of your stay in the facility. Rules for people under 15 are a bit more complicated.

  • Nick says:

Let them register THEMSELVES!! These people can understand only lessons taught by $$$$$! Take the money out of their pockets and see what happens!

  • JosĂ© Bergher says:

Attending an event where somebody will give out the details of a concert where the Radetzky March shall be played and clapped to by three- or four-hundred people is worth the investment on time and effort of getting vaccinated 2,000 times. Or 5,000.
