Another Canadian rising from China
NewsThe Canadian pianist Tony Siqi Yun, winner of the 2019 China International Music Competition, has been signed by Askonas Holt.
Yun, 20, performed the final of that contest with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, returning with Yannick to play the Cara Schumann concerto this year with the Orchestre Métropolitain in Montreal.
He is presently a student at Juilliard.
His compatriot Bruce Xiaoyu Liu, winner of this year’s Chopin Comeptition in Warsaw is still without a manager.
The race he won in China had a bad reputation, and he went to primary and secondary school in Beijing, so,
The first time I heard someone called a piano competition a “race”. Probably Chinglish from a jealous compatriot, but there may be some truth
Isn’t the current music competition horse racing?
That “rising from China” designation is a little misleading. Yes, he won that award from China. But he was born in Toronto. One of my closest friends is a Chinese Canadian, also born in Toronto. While she does not ever want to forget her roots, nor for her children to forget them, she identifies first and last as Canadian.
Whatever, it’s as good as Chinese. Just another automaton
Tony Siqi Yun is the real deal !!!
I was so deeply touched by his recent recital in Vancouver and I have no doubt his career will blossom quickly with Askonas agency
What’s not to love??!!
He left Canada at age 3 when his family moved back to China. So he basically grew up in China – this headline is totally justified.
It is also true that China competition he won in 2019 is the most corrupted in the history of competitions.
