The Swiss conductor has sent this message to the New Japan Philharmonic:

To all of Japan

I was looking forward to seeing you in Japan, but the test for the new coronavirus infection was positive.

Since I had been vaccinated, my symptoms were suppressed, but after an examination at a medical institution, my doctor instructed me to stop traveling within the year. I have already completed two vaccinations and have paid the utmost attention to infection control measures, so this time I feel once again how threatening this virus is to us. It was an opportunity.

It’s painful to give this kind of information to everyone who has been waiting for the concert, but first of all, I will concentrate on getting in shape, and I will be able to perform with the New Japan Philharmonic in June next year, and the Japanese audience We are looking forward to seeing you all.

Charles Dutoit

The orchestra has posted:

The conductor Charles Dutoit, who is scheduled to appear at the 638th Subscription Concert of the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra on Saturday, November 27th and Monday, November 29th, 2021, has been confirmed to be positive for the new coronavirus.

As of November 15, the results of X-rays showed that shadows remained in the lungs, and the doctor ordered that the aircraft be banned from traveling domestically and internationally until the end of this year.

Therefore, unfortunately, the 638th Subscription Concert will be held with a different conductor… Michiyoshi Inoue.

Wow, I did not know that coronavirus was sexually transmitted haha.

    • Sue Sonata Form says:

Then there are significant gaps in your knowledge and experience. Here’s a scoop; You can even get it passing somebody in the street!

    • BRUCEB says:

Actually if the couple (or however many are involved) spend several minutes breathing each other’s air, then actually in a manner of speaking it could be.

  • Gustavo says:

So get your shots, boosters, FFP2 masks and daily tests, folks!

Pray to God that all this plastic waste won’t end up on your plate!

Avoid all social contacts except the social media.

Don’t use public transport! It’s bad for the car industry and your wellbeing.

Stop worrying about climate change. That’s a challenge for future generations, not for us tripple-vacs-no-kids egomaniacs.

I have been trying to get covid for two years!

“the doctor ordered that the aircraft be banned from traveling domestically and internationally until the end of this year.” Wow – powerful doctor! Seems a trifle harsh for the booked passengers.

  • Karl says:

Don’t get tested. You don’t want to know!

  • Ms.Melody says:

Ability to joke about a virus that has killed and is continuing to kill millions, including multiple artists, should in itself be considered an illness, or maybe, just a character flaw and total lack of empathy

    • Dr. Birchley Poundbottom says:

Actually Ms. Melody, the ability to joke is strongly associated with intelligence; humour keeps the mind flexible as we age. I hope Maestro Dutoit recovers from his bout of suppressed symptoms in short order!

      • Ms.Melody says:

Dr.Birchley, I have nothing against humour. I use it a lot myself to get through life and unpleasant encounters, but there is a difference between humour and bad taste, and some of the comments are in bad taste

  • Irmgard Bittar says:

    Agree without hesitation.

  • Mathias Broucek says:

I’ve got a few recordings with Inoue and they’re pretty good..

  • Harpist says:

That is an unusual press release from the orchestra, stating X-ray findings, which is not really appropriate. And, teh aircraft is not allowed to travel…?

    • BRUCEB says:

It’s not a violation of privacy if Dutoit gave them the information to share. (Also, privacy laws may be different there; I don’t know)
