What prevents us from seeing the true beauty of the world? Director Sergey Novikov brings Tchaikovsky’s last opera into the present to explore the question. With this production, Royal Swedish Opera revives the one-act opera Iolanta for the first time since its Stockholm premiere in 1893.
Not sure if it’s that “rare” – apart from the Met production in 2015 and 2019, it has also been performed in Chicago (2018), Holland Park and Paris (also in 2019), Cincinnati (2017), Madrid (2012), as well as quite frequently in the Russian Federation.
The Opera in Louisville, KY had a performance some years ago that was semi staged.
