The Du Pre programme was ok, but in the second programme Nupen came across as smug and self-satisfied and did himself no favours at all
The best programme for a long time – magic. Insights poured out of it! Has Nupen been under-rated? How have I not been aware of him? I know the du Pre film but didn’t know his name or all his other work. How often have these films been aired??
Excellent programmes but it’s funny how his way of directing camera operators has not percolated down to them today. No shot may last more than 10 seconds and whizzing around all over the place. I blame bored directors who really wish to be in Hollywood.
There are lots of good documentary makers out there.
So happy to learn of this. I met Nupen in New York a few decades ago and found him to be so lovely and culturally dedicated.
