Bolshoi star dies at 88
RIPThe coloratura soprano Bela Rudenko has died at a great age.
Ukrainian born, she studied in Odessa and joined the Bolshoi cast in 1973, singing Natasha in Prokofiev’s War and Peace, Liudmila in Glinka’s Ruslan and Liudmila, Rosina in Barber of Seville, Violetta in La Traviata, and Lucia in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor.
She also appeared in France, the UK, Italy, Sweden, Japan, Canada and the US.
From 1977 to 217 she taught at the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire.
