Very sad news: Ron Ephrat has died
RIPThe long-serving former principal viola of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra died this morning after a long illness.
Ron was the life and soul of the orchestra, a combatant in every serious musical discussion. Israeli by birth, he studied with Oedon Partos and Ilona Feher before making his career in Europe, first at Malmo, then in Holland. He was also a member of the Amati String Strio and other chamber ensembles.
He retired from the orchestra after 33 years in 2016, got married to Marta and had a daughter.
Our deep sympathies to his family in their sad loss on the eve of Kippur.
