Label news: Dutch label is swallowed by Belgians
NewsThe independent Dutch label Channel Classics, founded 30 years ago by Jared Sacks, has been taken over by the Belgian group Outhere.
Channel features such artists as Rachel Podger, Iván Fischer, Pieter Wispelwey, Dana Zemtsov, and Anna Fedorova.
Outhere is a Belgian agglomerator of small west-European labels. Its collection includes Fuga Libera, Æon, Alpha, Ricercar and Zig-Zag.
Small labels? Alpha is an incredibly respected and not at all small label, with a huge budget and far-seeing entrepreneurism, one of the few labels I really respect!
Ricercar is a very respected label also.
I will Bis that!
I just hope they maintain the extraordinary high quality of recording that Channel has – their SACDs sound incredible. And please find a way to get Fischer to complete the Mahler cycle!!
I believe Fischer feels out of sympathy with the Mahler 8th, so he may regard his cycle as finished…
I hope this acquisition would bring tasteful design to Channel Classics’ album covers from now on.
The original graphic design team of Channel Classics can be made redundant.
Meaning that they will be in the best company in the world, as far as classical recording goes.
