Dutch tie down Karina Canellakis until 2027

The American conductor has been such an instant hit at the Dutch Radio Philharmonic Orchestra that they have extended her contract until July 2027, one of the longest condcutor contracts around.

She says: ‘Since our first rehearsal together in 2018, I have had a special musical connection with this orchestra and I am delighted that we can continue this collaboration for another four years. I am incredibly proud of the beautiful sound of the orchestra and how they have continued to make music with passion, despite the enormous challenges the pandemic has brought over the past 18 months. I look forward to many more years together, with full concert halls and programs full of exciting repertoire.’

    If a major US orchestra is looking for a first-rate musician/conductor who also happens to be female, they need to look no farther.

    Her Msa Glagolska at the Proms was superb. A much greater musical experience than Beethoven’s 5th symphony, under another conductor who seemed to be air-pole dancing…
