The Scottish maestro Sir James MacMillan has co-written a book, Creative Composition for the Classroom, aimed at kid composers.

The publisher is Trinity College London Press.

    I also once wrote a composition book for kids. But it appeared that they quickly turned towards serialism because that was easier. And when turned into adults, they flocked to the modernist establishment to keep it upright. Small deeds can have enormous consequences, so Sir James be warned.
