Ringo was quick onto Twitter.

Condolences. Watts is an apt name for him, rhythmic electricity flowing richly-smoothly and tonally-coloristically contrapuntally with deft accents, as opposed to Decibels. Charlie is a prime component informing the timeless, thrilling music of the Rolling Stones.

Charlie was also-and possibly above all-a jazz drummer. Rest in peace. The end of an era.

Very sad. Great Drummer and good friend of
ronnie Scott. I think he preferred jazz to rock music.

Norman, any special reason why you chose this photo of The Stones to announce his death? Not sure what an Israeli flag has to do with Mr. Watts and he’s barely visible (far left) in this photo of the four of them. (The photo with two of the Stones does NOT include Charlie Watts.)

    Odd photo chosen

  • Alexander Graham Cracker says:

As the heartbeat of the Stones, Charlie Watts was essentially the heartbeat of rock and roll itself. A huge loss….

    RIP!

Such a classy drummer and the backbone of the group. Without him, no Rolling Stones – or Beatles without Ringo. End of an era for some of us who lived through those fun times of the 60s. Great tribute on BBC Radio 4’s Today programne this morning.
