The Times reports that former EMI and Warner executive Eudoros Demetriou has been returned to jail in Britain after failing to repay the proceeds of multiple frauds.

Demetriou, 82, was well-known in the classical world – but not quite as well known as the Times seems to think: ‘… Demetrio, a former conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra…’

Anyone remember that concert?

I think it is right for this blog to hold the Times accountable to high standards of factual accuracy, and to set an example in this space.

What’s the point of putting an 82 year old man in jail?

  • Cleisthenes says:

“Demetrio, a former conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra…” This is false reporting by the Times. His tribe only does chamber music.

  • Kolb Slaw says:

I never heard boo about this guy. How about some more back-story before slandering him? And how is he any different than any other recording executive, producer or engineer? Are there any who are not fraudsters?

Maybe this is where they got the Vienna Philharmonic conductor thing from:

Why would an 82 yo man pay debts?

  • Don Ciccio says:

One can go directly to the source: the Vienna Philharmonic online archive. Unless he used a different name, it appears clearly that Eudoros Demetriou never conducted the prchestra.
