At the other rocky Tosca, Terfel stays out
NewsWe hear that the the Hawaiian baritone Jordan Shanahan will sing Scarpia in Graz’s Tosca tonight as the Welsh baritone Bryn Terfel fails again to make it into the dream team.
Jordan will face Kristine Opolais and Jonas Kaufmann – who seem to be having more fun as Puccini’s lovers than Salzburg’s Netrebkos.
Terfel has been racking his voice for a while now. He cancelled the Tosca at the MET, now Graz… Critics and audiences alike still praise him as an example of “gesang kultur”.
Obviously in the classical world doesn’t matter what you can do, it only matters what people think you can do.
Dream team??? Opolais is vocally a mess, while Kaufmann was just a fine Cavaradossi some years ago.
As for Salzburg – the most overrated soprano of the last century + her baggage = nothing interesting!

He either needs to give up or learn how to sing properly.
