Hilary Hahn plans Chicago Symphony Bring-Your-Baby concertsUncategorized
The violin wants to share her music with neonates in a trademarked Bring Your Own Baby program.
The press release says: Next spring she will perform a mixed recital program in the Symphony Center Presents Chamber Music series, and the coming season also sees her host two of her signature “Bring Your Own Baby (BYOB)” concerts. Providing a nurturing and welcoming environment for new parents to share their love of live classical music with their infants, these innovative free events will continue the CSO’s ongoing commitment to families with young children. The “Bring Your Own Baby” concerts are just one of the ways Hahn plans to strengthen the CSO’s connections with the wider Chicago community.
This could be a thing.
She’s been doing these concerts for years now. There are multiple videos on youtube. Slow news day, Norman?
To be fair, he didn’t say this was new. He just said she’s planning to do it in Chicago.
It’s also possible that he never heard of this kind of concert before.
If anyone wants to make a baby with me so that they can attend these concerts, please mail me a picture of your fishing boat, a PDF of your bank account statement, and the meal you are most fond of cooking for dinner.
finally some great news! this is lovely.
White babies will get in for free, black babies will have to audition to get in, Asian babies must demonstrate emotions and feelings to get in.
Norman – if you actually moderate comments, this is one that should probably be moderated out.
Try reading some Jonathan Swift.
Try acting like a human being.
(P.S. Jonathan Swift had wit, and could actually write.)
Such racist, revolting and unnecessary comments, Sam. Not even funny.
Delightful idea! People bring their babies to baseball games, so why not concerts. Babies love music!
It’s a wonderful idea. Her playing characteristics and approach to phrasing will soothe the babies as much as it calms me—at all times.
I imagine Ivry Gitlis, Christian Ferris, Ida Haendel, or other violinists with tremendous personality in their playing would not be so effective for this particular demographic.
Bravo and cheers to Ms Hahn!
Ha. I saw what you did there 🙂
We’ve been doing this in Atlanta for 25 years-
There’s always a cynic in every crowd: who in their right mind would bring a baby up in Chicago!
Leave it to Hilary to save the world.
