It’s nervous music at the edge of sonic art.
A genuinely remarkable new work. And presented from the outset with such a fine performance and video production. Truly unrelenting demands on the soloist, and yet mastered with such virtuosity!
And a couple related thoughts: 1) The work seems to speak to the ever-increasing divide between the Anglo-American and continental new music worlds. 2) How does the UK have such fine orchestras and yet pay them so badly?
Viewed? thought violin concertos were heard ?
Pretentious junk that goes nowhere. Lousy orchestration too
It’s a work of tremendous skill and ambition – I found it somewhat over-scored, especially in the percussion department, but… give the guy a break! I wish I could write so idiomatically for the violin as does this clarinet-playing composer.
Hints of Walton (perhaps unavoidably) in the energetic, neo-romantic crowd-pleaser (and nothing wrong with that!) And bravissimo to la Benedetti!
