Opera shock: Savonlinna is off
mainFinland’s Savonlinna Opera festival has called off all performances this summer due to ‘the uncertain situation’.
The decision is perplaxing since Covid rates in Finland are low and Savonlinna performances are partly outdoors.
This blow will be felt across the festival industry.
Among the casualties is a gala concert with Karita Mattila.
Probably because many foreign tourists attend and they are worried about Covid 19 being brought in to the country.
Yes, I would think so too. Finland has really good (low) numbers, among the very best in Europe. Countries like Germany, France, Sweden have much much higher numbers.
One can see it here, for example (click on the plus to show the rest of the chart).

Interesting that Germany is not on the chart provided. It seems to have one of the highest rates in Germany.
Germany is on there. Click on accept/manage cookies, then click on the plus sign in the middle of the chart to open the rest of it (at least on my computer it is shown that way). Germany’s numbers have gone down a little bit since May 16, when I posted it, so maybe we are now in the bottom half ;). Still not good at all.- Finland has said that the numbers in many European countries have not developed as hoped for, hence no opening in June at the moment.
Stop making sense. In short, you’re right.
