What made you think it was going to be a big name?
Serebrier is a huge name! He’s extremely popular in South America. Everywhere you go there, he either is or has been the Music Director. Terrific conductor – top notch – very charismatic, & an interesting person. He’s so outgoing and extroverted as a conductor it doesn’t surprise me that his son inherited his theatrical genes!
New? It’s in its 22nd series and has been running this year since last autumn, with breaks. it is now the longest-running of the Law and Order franchises, having passed the original a couple of seasons ago.
I wonder how many other offspring (or grand-offspring?) of musicians have gone into acting. I can think of:
• John Rubinstein (son of Arthur)
• John DeLancie (son of John DeLancie, principal oboist of the Philadelphia Orchestra back in the day)
• Werner Klemperer (son of Otto)
• Rebecca Hall (daughter of Sir Peter and Maria Ewing)
…any others?
Efrem Zimbalist Jr. and Stephanie Zimbalist, son and granddaughter of violinist and original director of Curtis.
Violinist Efrem Zimbalist Sr (noted Russian-born concert and recital soloist, who was also a teacher of many fine violinists and director of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia) was the father of actor Efrem Zimbalist Jr (“The FBI”) and grandfather of Stephanie Zimbalist (“Remington Steele”).
I believe Karl Boehm’s granddaughter (sorry, no umlaut) was in the first few series of Inspector Montalbano.
His grandmother is/was no slouch either…
Serebrier is a major conductor and composer with a long and distinguished career.
