Swiss mourns doyen composer, 89
mainThe hyperactive Rudolf Kelterborn has died in his 90th year.
Aside from his extensive output, which includes five symphonies, he was head of music on Swiss-German Radio and direcor of the Basel Music Academy.
His four-act opera The Cherry Garden reopened the renovated Zurich Opera House in 1984.
Sounds like he was the Swiss Erno Dohnanyi — in terms of his appointments, not his music. The piano Metamorphosen start out aridly, in my opinion, but the work improved and succeeded in keeping my interest.
