Sad news. He featured in the Brilliant Classics complete Mozart box set – including as soloist in the piano concertos. A fine artist.

  • Edgar Self says:

Doleful news for Derek Han’s many admirers and friends. Condolences to his family and loved ones.

The original post says he was also a financier. It not that rare fror a musician? Wht were Han’s activities in this field?

  • Edgar Self says:

HDerek Han died of complications from the coronavirus following a tip to Italy according to an obituary in the Herald Tribune of Sarasota FL where he was associate director of La Musica Chamber Music Festival. I did not find any information about his activity as a financier.

  • Edgar Self says:

A fascinating story. Many thanks, Marfisa, and not for the first time.

  • Paul Austen says:

What incredibly sad news. I too have the Brilliant Classics of him performing the complete Mozart concerti and they are absolutely impeccable beautiful tasteful performances. I hadn’t heard of Derek Han before and I Google searched him to see his biography and came across this terrible news of his death at only 63. What a loss to music. We have all lost friends and relatives through Covid but now I detest this dreadful plague even more. I shall now treasure his recordings even more and listen to them with thanks for his life and musicianship and the legacy of recordings he has left us. RIP Derek Han
