Slippedisc comfort zone (10): Richter’s nostalgia
Daily Comfort ZoneSviatoslav Richter plays Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1 Prelude and Fugue No. 8 in E flat minor, BWV 853 from Andrei Tarkovsky’s 1983 film Nostalgia, dedicated to the director’s mother.
What is this? Tarkovsky didn’t use this music in the film. In these scenes there is haunting silence broken only by the sounds of nature, or a folksong being sung in the distance.
I forgot to include the opening bars of Verdi’s Requiem which Tarkovsky also uses.
Intrigued by the white horse it doesn’t move wonder if it is stuffed?
Well, in the long run we all are — mightily.
Gorgeous Bach playing from a master pianist.
