Church of England laments a composer
RIPThe British organist and director of music Richard Hey Lloyd died yesterday at the age of 87.
He was organist and Master of the Choristers of Hereford Cathedral from 1964 to 1973, when he moved to the same offices at Durham Cathedral. In 1985 he was appointed deputy headmaster of Salisbury Cathedral School, retiring three years later due to ill-health.
A remarkable man I got to know at the start of my own solo career, with singing in Durham Cathedral.
A very talented choirmaster, organist and composer who had a wonderful sense of humour, and was a joy to work with. He will be greatly missed.
