From the choreographer Peter Quanz:

Harbin Ballet, China, just premiered my choreography of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy with 30 dancers and 300 orchestra and choir members on stage.
Huge success tonight!
I’m so proud of the dancers who worked unbelievably hard on this performance.

It is to be hoped that a Chinese translation of the text was distributed among the audience.

  • HugoPreuss says:

What a terrible appropriation of German culture. Totally offensive. How dare the Chinese do this without asking someone’s permission. /irony off

    • OperaFan says:

You are such a racist! How would you know they did not get through proper process? Did you ever feel the same way if an European ensemble and orchestra do the same? I am seeing a Neo Hitler in you! Shame on you for being such a fake!

      • Colin says:

Notwithstanding the “/irony off” comment, I do believe that HugoPreuss is being ironic (and maybe OperaFan is, as well).
