Alan Gilbert is in hospital with Covid
mainThe former music director of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, now with the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, was admitted to hospital a week ago in Stockholm with a bad case of Covid-19.
We understand that he is doing much better now and have sent him our warm wishes for a speedy recovery.
Stockholm has seen rising Covid numbers this month, with the Opera shut down after a cluster of 15 cases.
Hoping for a full and speedy recovery. Gilbert seems like a mensch.
May those who downvoted your kind wishes reap the wrath of karma. Who would do that?
I almost downvoted your bizarrely syncretistic “reap the wrath of karma”, but why should you know?
Liked his Mahler 7 and 3 in HH, the latter in the Elphi where a musician fainted (back row, percussionist, I seem to recall) during the last movement (which indeed can be quite moving). Nevertheless, the show went on without any affect on the flow of the music. Great responsiveness of the orchestra and great conducting – Bravo!
Those are the two Mahler symphonies A. Gilbert did really well in N.Y. as well. The proof can be heard on Spotify and, I think, Youtube.
Did he want this medical information to be made public?
Sad news. Best wishes for a full recovery.
Best wishes to Alan Gilbert and his family for his continued improvement and recovery. We need more conductors like him.
Hope he’s on the mend.
But visiting the Covid basket case that is Sweden was a really bad idea.
Best wishes for a quick and full recovery, Maestro Gilbert!!!!
A speedy recovery … and no after effects either! Be well!
A wonderful human being. A great artist!
Speedy recovery, Alan!!
Robert and the BIS team.
Get well soon!
Cheers from all your fans world-wide!

He brought the NYPO to Montreal for a couple of concerts a few years ago. I remember a very awesome Mahler 5th. Get well soon maestro!
We enjoyed watching you conduct in New York via PBS. Our best wishes to you and family during this worrisome time.
