Giovanni left the faculty several years ago. Keep up

Good to see more and more Latinx are getting high profile jobs in classical music. But I don’t see any Persians or Hindus in orchestras. Why??

    • Ashu says:

So far as Hindus are concerned, I see no evidence that it’s for lack of opportunity. Rather, it’s lack if interest: for complex and interesting cultural-historical reasons, Western classical music has generally failed to seize the imagination if people born into Hindu culture. This is my subjective opinion based on fifteen years of life amongst conservative Hindus in India. One of my wife’s relatives is a violinist with a deep knowledge of Western classical, and he’s an extremely rare bird around here. If he had been willing and able to completely devote himself to his passion, he would simply have had to emigrate.

Not so much to of a Latin, I’d say: he is half Italian, left Venezuela when he was a child for Madrid, and in his teens moved to London.
