News has reached us belatedly of the passing of Loren Glickman, one of the most influential bassoon players in the US.

Raised in Cleveland, he was principal bassoon of the National Symphony Orchestra, New York City Opera, Mostly Mozart and many other ensembles, as well as a popular teacher.

    Very sorry to learn about this. I worked with Loren for about five years in the ’90s. He was also a founding member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and, for many years, one of the two or three most influential “contractors” for hiring free-lance classical musicians in NY City.

    I believe Loren was also one of Stokowski’s first calls for the pickup “His Symphony Orchestra” when East coast sessions were planned.
