The diverse pianist and composer ‘Blue’ Gene Tyranny has died in a hospice of diabetes complications. He was 75.

Much of his work as a composer was done in collaboration with Iggy Pop, Carla Bley, Laurie Anderson, Bill Dixon and others. His closest partnership was with the composer Robert Ashley.

His real name was Robert Sheff.

    I remember him well from Robert Ashley’s Perfect Lives when it aired on Channel Four back in the eighties. RIP
