The next Ring will roll in Australia
mainWith Paris on the brink of Covid cancellation, Melbourne has announced an all-Australian cast Ring starting in February.
You might have to catch a swim, a beer and a few sights before it reaches Götterdämmerung, which is not scheduled until 2023.
Longborough’s expert Anthony Negus conducts. Warwick Fyfe will sing Wotan, Sarah Sweeting is Fricka.
Have fun
So are these gals Rheinmaidens ?
And that must be Alberich….
Note, everyone, that this is not an Opera Australia production; this is by a company called Melbourne Opera.
Opera Australia is just finishing up a run of the Ring cycle in Brisbane this week.
Completely wrong.Opera Australia rescheduled its Brisbane Ring until late next year.
Also unlike OA, Melbourne Opera is a ProAm company
Also completely untrue.MO has a volunteer chorus just like most symphony orchestras etc.All other artists are paid at normal negotiated rates.
Opera Australia’s chorus is paid, MO’s is not, therefore my statement remains correct.
And unlike the heavily subsisted Victorian Opera which uses unpaid student orchestras and choruses ie their Parsifal.
Melbourne Opera.
Ohhh, if the pic is accurate, this might be a Ring one could actually enjoy with decent looking Rhinemaidens. Hot!
That would certainly a lot more interesting than that visual abomination in Los Angeles ten years ago.
Paris is still on for recording next week, barring any new positive tests.
Finnish National Opera Ring set to continue in February with Die WalkĂĽre.
The picture shows five of the three Rhine Maidens just after studying their role and trying-out their costumes. Wagner would have loved it.
