Anna Netrebko: You won’t see me wearing a mask

The Russian soprano, recovering from Covid-19, has been posing for social media pictures in Moscow.

She tells her followers: ‘In few days I will come back to singing and tell you about new plans! And – NO – I am Not gonna make photos with mask.’

  • Gustavo says:

    Anna NeTrumpko.

  • Chris says:

Actually, according to the quote in your article, she didn’t say what your headline says. She said “I am not going to make photos with mask.” Quite different.

  • Maxwell says:

I see the Opera world has it’s new COVIDIOT Spokeswhore – Anna Sodumbko

  • Dave says:

Maybe she can share a room with Trump.

  • Dennis says:

Good for her. We need a global Maskendämmerung!

Savonarola had his Bonfires of the Vanities. We need a billion Bonfires of the Masks.

  • M McAlpine says:

In all fairness she didn’t say, “I’m never going to wear a mask.’ Just not for a photo.

  • LydiaWahlberg says:

She may be a great soprano, but alas, not too bright. I usually cringe when she is interviewed.

  • Lawrence Kershaw says:

Then concert halls and theatres should prevent her from performing. Frankly, no-one cares about her, if she chooses to put herself at risk, but others WILL be potentially affected by being in proximity to her. Not everywhere is Putin’s Russia, where the dictator’s favourite can do whatever she wishes.

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

As she will not be protected from Covid-19, having already had it, there’s no point wearing a mask since, once recovered, she cannot infect others or get it again herself.

    Rocket science.

    • Tom Hase says:

What kind of misinformation is that? By now there have been several confirmed cases of people getting Covid-19 twice and infecting others.

      • V. Lind says:

Straight from the Trump playbook. That’s what kind. Don’t let it dominate you…maybe I’m immune… (and the hell with whoever I infect by checking myself out of hospital against doctors’ recommendations, after putting people in a car at risk, and the hell with the Americans who may be infected by following his IDIOTIC “advice”).

    • Sonata form has logic and balance. This answer has neither. Masks are a protection against contracting AND spreading the virus. Yes, you can be reinfected with Covid-19. Fact.

    • Michael Ross says:

Not having a reoccurance of COVID-19 has not been proven.

    • William says:

I’m glad you recovered, that hasn’t been proven you can’t catch again.

  • Lyudmila says:

I’m no fan of Netrebko’s ego or public posturing, but why on earth should she wear a mask now when she’s recovered and got those sweet immunity antibodies?

In fact I see a possible future for select groups of musicians who have all had the dreaded ‘vid and can now play and tour together à la 2019 without further ado….

  • Doc Martin says:

Immunity to sars-cov-2 has been shown to fall steadily after several months. The strain (mutation) in Russia is not the same as in EU or US or Singapore, so a secondary infection is quite possible, she should still wear a mask.

  • Alexander says:

I do agree with her for many reasons

  • Stupid is as Stupid does. says:

    Nice voice. Stupid woman.

  • Darrell says:

In these times, where weakness and victimhood are glorified, Anna Netrebko has to endure all kinds of accusations and nonsense just for being strong.

She caught a virus (one of the many that surround us), stopped for a few days, recovered and is back. This is how human nature works from the very beginning.

The lunatics of poststructuralism, deconstruction and other verbiage seek to change nature by piling up words from their ivory towers (normally university offices occupied by useless specters to human evolution, but still very well paid with taxpayers money.)

She is brave (not reckless, brave) because she accepts to live according to our nature and environment, not out of fantasies, even less because of an irrational fear fueled by the mass media for spurious interests.

And by the way, she lives off her job, not on taxpayer money. Perhaps that is why they criticize her even more.

The future does not belong to the fainthearted, it belongs to the brave. Those who criticize her so much can proceed to lock themselves in their homes by slamming the door (because this is how viruses are kept well away), put the mask high up and remain hidden for the rest of their lives. By the way they can also kneel and all that circus …

Netrebko is brave (in the face of life), fearless (you need to keep going), bold (accepts risks that scare others) and strong (her body has beaten the virus and is stronger, which benefits future generations). This is how human nature works.

Netrebko is great. What a crime these days.

    • Liza says:

      Boom! Mic drop!

The irrational fear over a virus with a 99.8% survival rate the most people experience asymptomatically or as a run of the mill cold is absolutely astounding. We survived as a human race for 180,000 years, and the overwhelming majority – and 99.99999% of those young and healthy – will survive Covid more easily than any host of other deadly pathogens.

We’re killing more out of hunger (130 million is the latest estimate) worldwide from supply chain disruption. Please.

Be not afraid and go maskless. Brave, fearless, bold. Love her for this.

      • Brettermeier says:

“Brave, fearless, bold. Love her for this.”

YES!! That’s why I landmined my community. Sure, I could die. Others will probably die because of this, too.

But that’s the price to pay for freedom!!!eleven!!

And this is why I hate people.

    • AnnaT says:

Lol, do you think the opera houses where she so bravely performs her fearless strong boldness are not supported by taxpayers?

  • Ms.Melody says:

Nobody has ever accused her of being intelligent. Unfortunately, she has a huge following and is being a really poor role model.

  • Nurhan Arman says:

Irresponsible and idiotic! She is missing an opportunity to be a role model.

  • Erika Reynolds says:

She did not say that she refuses to wear a mask.

  • Bruce says:

Not much interested in what she does, but — it’s still impressive to me how many people think the primary purpose of a mask is to protect yourself.

    • Brettermeier says:

“it’s still impressive to me how many people think the primary purpose of a mask is to protect yourself.”

That’s an easy one. Many people are stupid. 🙂

  • Fatima says:

Anna you are the best Diva ever!!! Your voice is heavenly, love to listen everything you sing- браво!!!

  • Charlottenburger says:

You won’t see me paying money to listen to you sing either.

  • Jovani says:

Mask or no mask , you are singing from your hart to my hart. Or rather our hearts.
    With Love,
Anna, just sing ….no werries about politic. at the end of the day, we are all human and politics comes with it .If I respect your opinion and you do mine. That is peace .

  • JB says:

Almost as soon as she posted on IG about having Covid (read her posts) , she minimized it and dismissed the seriousness of it as if all the sacrifices, costly performance cancellations, and fuss was all for nothing these months. As if annoyed that those decisions were made..If like Netrebko and Trump you happen to get a milder case, good for you. But to minimize the seriousness of this virus after so many have lost someone, died or have permanently disabled lungs, heart etc. by it, is just such a big FU to those people (Trump is doing the same). I never cared for her.

  • David Costa says:

She said: I’m not gonna make PHOTOS with a mask. Why these fake news? Why this pseudo-journalist titled like this? And forgive me, but also the people posting nonsense below or throwing pointless insults: can you read the actual words?

  • Slappy McGillicutty says:
