London mourns a prominent double bass
mainThe London Symphony Orchestra has announced the death today of its former principal double bass, Rinat Ibragimov.
Rinat, who was 60, suffered a stroke six years ago and was unable to play since.
Raised in Moscow, he was principal at the Bolshoi before joining the LSO in 1995.
He is survived by his wife Lutsia, son Timur and daughter, the violinist Alina Ibragimova.
Surely you meant “stroke”… My condolences to his family.
Oh nooo!! A huge loss for the bass world! RIP Mr. Ibragimov and thank you for all wonderful performances!!
One of the great double bass players of all time. rest well, Rinat. You are loved and admired by so many!
That is sad.
There are also several wonderful YouTubes of him performing some nearly forgotten but none-the-less impressive bass concertos of the repertoire.
Rinat was not only a great artist, he was a great man. It will be missed in our hearts.
May he rest in peace.
It is so very sad to lose such an outstanding talent so indecently early. Я надеюсь что даже в этот тяжелый час Люция сможет принять искреннее соболезнование и наилучшие пожелания от бывшего обитателя комнаты 530 (если память мне не изменяет). Stay strong and find comfort in music and in your children – not necessarily in that order.
A fantastic musician. Condolences to his family and friends.
A virtuoso who brought brilliance to the double bass world……fantastic youtube recordings. A very sad loss of an amazing musician who has died far too young.
Hi Norman, I believe the stroke happened 7 years ago, in January 2013. Anyway, it is an immense and irreplaceable loss for the music world…
He was my friend. As a tribute to his memory, my translation from Chinese.

we don’t see each other
we don’t see each other for a long time…
from day to day going to the spring head
I always remember united hand in hand
hand in hand is rooted in a single heart
I sigh again our sleeves suddenly part…
remembering each other today it will be this way
longing for each other is deep… not deep… who can say…
I studied with the same professor as Rinat – E.A. Kolosov at the P.I. Tchaikovsky in Moscow. Here is my homage to Rinat :
