Gilbert never really settled in New York anyway; his home base throughout his NY Phil tenure was always Stockholm, and he and the family escaped there every opportunity they could.
Career move? Leave New York My friends in the orchestra brought a bottle of champagne to the meeting when they were sure he was announcing his departure. Toasted in the dressing room afterwards. Real talk.
