Romanian soprano is found dead in isolation
mainThe Romanian lyric-coloratura soprano Constanța Adriana Mesteș has been found dead in her apartment after several days of not being seen.
Born on April 7, 1956 in Timișoara, she became a soloist of the National Opera in Iasi, eventually winning recognition in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia.
She won many awards for Lieder singing.
Sofía is not the capital of Romania, if she won recognition in her home country’s capital, it was Bucharest. Otherwise if it was Sofia, it was Bulgaria….
Err…the capital of Romania is Bucharest. Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria.
This is what can happen when one thinks one is Maria Callas.
Sofia? Bucharest, surely… A bit of proof-reading (knowledge?) goes a long way…
“…the capital, Sofia…”
Lol. Everyone knows that the Romanian capital is Budapest, at least since Romania seceded from the Bordurian-Syldavian empire in 1918; up to that point the Romanian capital was, of course, Belgrade.
Sofia! Hah.
You mean Bucharest…
No, Belgrade
Belfast, Sweden.
The Balkans can be confusing. Some disentangling of the geography is called for.
The first international engagement and subsequent recognition of Ms. Mesteș occurred at the Bulgarian National Opera in Sofia, Bulgaria. That much is correct.
But Ms. Mesteș died at her home in Bucharest, capital of her native Romania. Not Sofia.
Dying alone and under 65– and who knows how she died.
What a shame.
it is a dreadful shame. But are you suggesting dying alone and over 65 is less so? Sure reads that way.
I don’t get the confusion. The entry is correct.
It’s been changed. It originally said “the Romanian capital, Sofia.”
“I don’t get the confusion. The entry is correct.”
And we all know that once something is posted, it can NEVER be changed. Just like we all know that if something falls under the bed, it’s gone. Forever.
Sorry for the soprano. Currently in Bucharest, listening to the opening concert of the Enescu Competition (violin, cello, piano, music composition):
