A conductor writes: I am very seriously ill
mainThe Viennese conductor Roberto Paternostro has posted the following:
I’ve been getting a lot of messages and well wishes lately.
Yes, yes. Unfortunately I am very seriously ill.
The next few months will be a tough fight against the disease and I’m confident I’m winning.
This is how life changes from today to tomorrow.
Thank you very much again!
He added:
The good news: Survived the first surgery and first chemotherapy. Unfortunately it continues… but I’m struggling!!
Paternostro, 63, was General Music Director of the Württembergische Philharmonie from 1991 to 2000 and from 1997 to 2007 at the State Theatre in Kassel. He was Music Director of the Israel Chamber Orchestra from 2009 to 2013 and has a far-flung international freelance career.
We wish him a speedy recovery.
A serious musician and very animated man. Heavy smoker though….
Wishing Roberto Paternostro all the best! I would recommend his excellent Bruckner cycle to everybody. Hopefully he will get better soon and many more people will get to know his work.
I hope he recovers from whatever ailment he has. Sounds serious. Fine conductor. Made a terrific set of Bruckner symphonies that should be better known.
His low cost Bruckner cycle on cd has a genuine breathing.
All best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery, Maestro!!
Very good conductor.
I heard him in Santiago doing Bruckner’s 6th and Wagner’s C major Symphony.
Wishing him a full recovery.
Interesting, if flawed, Wagner recordings with the great Dame Gwyneth Jones. Will investigate his Bruckner based on comments above. Recover well and soon.
I like his Mahler 9 with Bundesjugendorchester!
Best wishes.
