John was the best man, the best friend anyone could have. Always went above and beyond on behalf of everyone he knew. He had unconditional love for his family and friends and was a superlative musician. I am devastated to hear the news. He told me back in January about his sudden diagnose and operation, we kept in touch often though chats online. I didn’t hear from him in a week or two. His beautiful family lost an angel. A wonderful wife and three very young kids. A tragedy. It will be a long time before those close to him will understand.
Rest in peace dear Aigi.
Sad. If you’ve ever seen the orchestra’s performance videos you’d know that he had tremendous presence on the stage. Here’s a great example of his playing:

Very sad and a great loss!
This example is also remarkable – from 45:00 on – trumpet after the battle cries at 46:05!

Thank you for this link, Gustavo! It is clear that John was a superb trumpet player. And what a fabulous orchestra! I had never heard them before but will seek out their recordings now. Just wonderful playing!!
What very sad news.
I’ve followed John’s playing on YouTube with the Galicia Symphony Orchestra. A very fine trumpet player who will be sadly missed.
Thoughts and condolences to John’s family and friends.
Im gonna MISS YOU maestro….

Rest in peace.
This group is terrific; I’ve seen them several times on YouTube and thought they need more recognition.
Sad about the loss of their lead trumpet.
I am so sad to get this message. I very like John A. Hurn and his music. He’s still young and will lives my heart. One Chinese people.
