The Polish baritone Mariusz Kwiecień, who has hardly sung this past year, has been replaced in Dallas’s Don Carlo next March. This is a very advance announcement of a sick cancellation.

It’s also another upgrade for the American Lucas Meachem.

  • What’s wrong with him?
Must think of his beautiful voice and the roles he sang…

This recording was his best I presume (in Dutch)

    • Jonathan says:

MK has had a lot of back problems throughout his career. He has spoken openly about being in great pain and as a result having to cancel engagements. Many singers talk about how tensions and pains in the body often lead to an inability to relax the larynx and therefore have an effect on singing.

MK has given me many wonderful nights at the opera and I wish him well.

  • Jk says:

Yes what has happened to him? Such a great voice!

  • Charles says:

He is still listed as singing in the ROH Don Carlo next Summer. Clearly, there is something long term, but i sounds as though it is not something career ending. He is only 47.

  • Henry Rosen says:

Lucas Meachem is a world class baritone and should be singing in every major opera house in the world.
