Domingo gets 18-minute ovation at La Scala

2020 is a new, blank canvas.
For some context, I think of Laura Baldrini, the former speaker of the Italian parliament, who due to her work for women’s rights, received so many death and rape threats that she had live in a secret location during her 2018 political campaign. To demean her, one leader of a major Italian political party compared her to an inflatable sex doll.

There have also been notable problems in the judiciary, as with a court ruling that exonerated group of men of rape by claiming the victim had no credibility because she was too unattractive to be raped.

Women in Italy have made enormous progress since the 1970s, but we see that problems remain.
Many politicians and public figures get death threats in Italy, both men and women. But for some reason when a woman gets threatened it makes more news.

And threatened with rape? I think not. But the SD comment crew will do any thing to rationalize misogyny.
Some recent political discourse in Italia surrounding the Five Star Party and the misogyny directed toward Laura Boldrini, prominent Italian politician who works for women’s rights. The leader of the Five Star Party is Beppe Grillo:
Some of Grillo’s nearly 2 million followers responded in droves. “Take her to a gypsy camp and let the chief of the camp screw her,” one wrote. “What if she likes it?” another replied. “I’ll fuck her,” a third volunteered.
Boldrini tried to fight back, tweeting that these commenters were potential rapists. One of the Five Stars’ top communications officers, Claudio Messora replied with a mocking tweet saying: “Dear Laura, I wanted to reassure you. Even if we are all rapists, you are not in any sort of danger!”
From Trumpism to the Five Star Movement, this is the direction the world is going. And we see it almost daily in the SD comments. Should we hope for something better from La Scala or the Vienna State Opera?
You’re missing the subject.
The responses here that the contextual information is irrelevant is willful denial of the social environment in Italy that allows the issues surround Domingo to be glibbly ignored. It is a sad reality that women in Italy pay a price for these cultural values.

In reality, Italy should be very proud of courageous women like Laura Boldrini who have taken a strong and effective stand against archaic attitudes.

Through 2018 he had given 135 performances in twenty-two different operas and roles (including three baritone roles) at La Scala. (Seven of those performances took place at the Teatro degli Arcimboldi, when La Scala’s stage was being renovated.) Domingo also sang the tenor part in two performances of the Verdi Requiem at La Scala.
And for this he was honoured.
And all of this has precisely nothing to do with situations where innocent and falsely accused men are required to dispute charges against them. You might at least wait until something is actually proven against Domingo before drawing our attention to genuine rape and sexual assault cases. Until then your irrelevant comments belong in another forum, not here.
The case against Domingo was investigated, he was subject to a disciplinary hearing, and he was fired. Any normal person would be satisfied that the case against him was proved.
It would be interesting to know how Saxon Broken is so sure the investigation into Domingo has been concluded and that he was fired. He was fired from San Francisco, Philadelphia and Dallas without any investigation. A summary execution would best describe the actions of these opera houses.
So far there have been no details made public about the outcome of the investigation by LA Opera. So unless Saxon Broken has inside information it would be a great deal better if people did not jump to erroneous conclusions.

Placido Domingo is the epitome of operatic glory and decay. Just like La Scala.
