Just in: France has two new opera chiefs
mainThe Mayor of Lyon has named Richard Brunel to succeed Serge Dorny as the city’s opera chief. Brunel, 47, heads the national Centre Dramatique at Valence.
And it’s reliably reported that local hero Bertrand Rossi will be the next head of l’Opéra Nice Côte d’Azur (below), although there is still some local opposition.
Both appointments have been rubber-stamped by the Ministry of Culture. Neither will change the weather.
Lyon’s production of Tchaikovsky’s ‘The Enchantress’ this season was a superb triumph.
And how is that related to Richard Brunel’s nomination ?
Possibly in that that kind of eulogy might become a thing of the past.
Why bother explaining to the muggles?
