Simon Rattle receives freedom of the City
mainIn London, we love an occasion to dress up.
Not sure what extra privileges it entails. He can already ride free on the buses.

They want him to leave home (Berlin) for good.
When speaking Rattle… have you Norman notice that one important player of Rattle’s former orchestra trumpet section has resigned? The biggest news of this year!
who?
News of the year is something different, everybody knows that Gábor Tarkövi resigned as solo trumpet to become a full-time professor at UdK (Universität der Künste Berlin).
I’m wondering more about the fact that he is also “Lehrbeauftrager für Flöte” (Lecturer for Flute) at the Barenboim-Said-Akademie (https://barenboimsaid.de/de/professor/gabor-tarkoevi).
Very talented, this Mr. Tarkövi!
We’ll check it out.
What you mean JohnB that everybody knows that he resigned? It’s not been public in anywhere. Maybe musicians in their own groups know about that but not all audience etc.
But of course if someone has readed Berlin’s this season brochure or watch Horn hangout with Gabor Tarkövi in 2017 – can deduce a lot
BPO has various vacancies with long time frames

Yep! Too much vacancies in BPO. Hopefully they are filled soon
Since Sir Simon Rattle is still primarily resident in the Federal Republic of Germany and has declared no intention to relocate from Berlin, I am surprised that Norman thinks he’s entitled to a free buss pass. Rattle may have a second home near the river, but Freedom Passes are normally only issued to citizens whose main seat of residence is the UK.
Does Sir S have a house in London ? [redacted: privacy]
Why does so often the unreadable happen in music life?
I think he can now drive his sheep across London Bridge.
In the 4×4?
Probably uses an extended baton with a curl at the end, rather like Lully used when giving himself gout,
Simon does not have a driving license!
You beat me to it Stephen! I’m glad I was one of those who gave Sir Simon his first job in Birmingham.
Thinking the same thing . In fact I nickname him “Fluffhead”
Freedom of the City means, in this case, that Sir Simon is no longer obliged to keep to the notated score or to be on time when performing in London.
How professionally droll JB – curious how those are the same initials of a very famous (and IMHO) conductor.
Congratulations Sir Simon!
Quite, Amy
A well deserved honour.
