The Polish baritone Mariusz Kwiecień, who is having a nightmare year of cancellations, has withdrawn from the ROH Don Pasquale in October ‘due to personal reasons’.

No replacement has yet been found.

Also out of the Covent Garden season is the Canadian tenor Joseph Kaiser, who was down to sing Ägisth in Elektra.

Once again: “due to” + “reasons”

Where do these P.R. people go to school?

    • Spongeringer says:

Excuse me, but you’re not owed anymore information than that. The only people who need to know the reason, at best, are the employers.

    • Maria says:

Yes, as a singer I quite agree. Tell the truth, be honest, and be done with it. Wecare there only as musicians and singers or whatever because we have a paying audience. Just look at the difference between that and dear Sarah Connolly and Mark Elder last week.

    • Saxon Broken says:

I am afraid, despite your pet peeve, it is nevertheless good English as it is written.

  • Ms.Melody says:

Do we know for sure that he is not ill and just does not want his medical information published on social media?
    Just asking…

  • Diane Valerie says:

“Sad Pole Quits Covent Garden”, “Sicklist: No-Show Pole”, “Sicklist: Troubled Pole Quits Munich” –

Is it really necessary to refer to Mr. Kwiecien’s origins every time he cancels? In the interests of parity, can we look forward to a “No-Show Bavarian” headline the next time Herr Kaufmann fails to show up?

    • V.Lind says:

Not to mention Argentinian for a certain pianist and Russian for a certain soprano, both of whom are regulars on the No-Show Show.
