The diva has spoken.

Five days after the #Metoo allegations against Placido Domingo, Anna Netrebko today posted these words on her Instagram account:

So happy to return to Metropolitan Opera in September to perform one of my favorite Verdi role – Macbeth- and share stage with fantastic Placido Domingo! @placido_domingo ❤️ Я счастлива открыть свой новый сезон в Метрополитен Опере одной из моих любимых партий – Леди Макбет и разделить сцену с Легендарным Пласидо Доминго! 😍🙏❤️

  • Caravaggio says:

So sads to listens to phantasm Placido Domingo (I thinks its phantastic?) perform one of favorite Verdi role for baritones. Sorried for my english.

    • Gustavo says:

      Lady Macbeth?

    • Howard Jaeckel says:

Don’t worry about your English, Caravaggio, it’s better than I can do in any language other than my own. Yes, it will be great to see the fantastic Placido Domingo singing “Macbeth.” One of the highlights of the season, for sure!

  • John Kelly says:

Hmmmm. We’ll see if either of them show up….

  • lohengrinloh says:

She also pronounced her position in Gulegina’s Instagram

  • ines says:

So what did she said? that she is not cancelling her performance at the Met in September.
    And that PD is fantastic
anything to do with the allegations against PD?
I assume by fantastic she refers to him as a singer or a performer or both
which is kind of weird if it s true that he does not sing well enough these days, as some of those who heard him are saying.

    • John Doe says:

Or she might be saying this – Met Opera, I am singing with Placido Domingo or I am not singing at all. Netrebko tends to be a tempermental diva who would have no issue making a cancelation on a whim.

  • John Borstlap says:

The video suggests (we hope: unintentionally) where she is looking forward to.

  • Marcelo says:

This is news today!? Not enough Domingo or too little to tell about the rest of the world?

  • Wladek says:

It has now reached the ridiculous stage , one deplorable
has been and one never was…the opera world as low
as it can be. ,all hype and no substance……..

  • Z says:

Of course she would say that. After all, she thinks sexual harassment is nothing but bullsh*t in the opera business — she does not even think such a thing would exist.

  • Rachel says:

This whole MeToo thing is weaponized and public lynching is not the way to go

    • Brettermeier says:

“This whole MeToo thing is weaponized and public lynching is not the way to go”

      Let’s see:

      MeToo: Weaponized
      Mass shootings: Politicized

Great, because if a problem is -ized, you can just ignore it! 😉

PS: I guess private lynching is ok then. Phew. I always was unsure about that!

    • Sue Sonata Form says:

The rule of law has been scrunched up in the hand and hurled out the window. Quite deliberately. For these screeching hyenas (women) the men in question are Donald Trump surrogates. That isn’t rocket science.

  • Mark says:

Anna is a tough Cossack lady and she couldn’t care less about the #metoo business or the opinions of tender-hearted ones. Brava !!!

    • Alexander says:

that’s what made her as Anna 😉 She is always a good girl 😉

    • Sarah says:

If you haven’t acquired resilience as a singer, then the reality is that it’s not the life for you!

    • Laurence says:

Yes, those terrible tender-hearted ones! Let’s send in the Cossacks for another pogrom and teach them a tough lesson!

    • Brettermeier says:

“Anna is a tough Cossack lady and she couldn’t care less about the #metoo business or the opinions of tender-hearted ones. Brava !!!”

Celebrating giving sh*t about other people’s misery. What made you this way?

      • Mark says:

It’s called reason. Try that instead of emotions …

        • Brettermeier says:

“It’s called reason. Try that instead of emotions …”

Ah, much better, thank you. We could save a lot of money by just shooting old (x>60) people instead of caring for them.

          • Brettermeier says:

            -1 thumb:

Ah, you again. Now you want to be unreasonable again, don’t you?

Always funny to see how “reasonable” comes with “(as long as it doesn’t have any (negative) impact on me)” for some people.

          • Mark says:

Reductio ad absurdum is rather banal and predictable.

          • Brettermeier says:

“Reductio ad absurdum is rather banal and predictable.”

You seem to know the name, but not the concept behind it. #sad

        • Yelena says:

          Opera IS emotions.

  • Gustavo says:

    Placido’s Domina

  • In April of 2018, responding to the Levine scandal and MeToo, Netrebko said, “Any of this sexual bullsh*t, we don’t have it. I’m sorry, and I think it’s total sh*t. But if you don’t want, nobody will ever force you to do anything, never. If you did it, it means that you allowed that.”

No such thing as rape for her. Sexual assault just means the victim wanted it.

  • Trevor Lynes says:

I think that Anna’s comments have been directed to Domingo as a singer. He is an iconic opera star and so far he has not been found guilty of anything….dont jump the gun folks !!

    • Frieda Falko says:

People are obsessed by the concept of guilt and innocence. This is not a criminal trial. It!s an abundance of credible complaints of unwanted and uninvited sexual touching by a celebrity no-holds-barred tenor. He admits most of the touching and unwanted behaviour — He just can’t imagine any woman wouldn’t want it! Thank goodness for #MeToo.
