Sicklist: No-show Pole
mainThe baritone Mariusz KwiecieĊ has continued a three-month run of cancellations by pulling out of the Ozawa Festival in Japan, where he was meant to be singing Eugene Onegin.
His replacement is the Turkish baritone Levent Bakirci, a Slippedisc soap star.
If Kwiecien’s cancellations had only gone on for three months, the picture would be rosier than it is. He’s been having trouble starting and finishing performances since at least the Pearl Fishers series at the Met, when he had to be replaced in three consecutive performances after making it through the first act. Then his replacement sang the other four performances in whole. That was in November.
What a shame! He has been impressive on a number of occasions!
Thumbs up for the future!
A singer is human , susceptible to all the difficulties and challenges of life . Singers carry their musical instrument in their bodies and are , I believe, the most vulnerable of all musicians and artists . Let us wish and hope for health and recovery and happiness to the singers who give us so much pleasure and joy as they battle on through life .
