The Osaka Philharmonic has made it known that music director Tadaaki Otaka will take two months from May to July off to receive radiation treatment for prostate cancer.

The production of Salome that he has planned for June will be conducted by Charles Dutoit.

Otaka, 71, holds British citizenship and is international president of the Welsh Sinfonia.

We wish him a speedy recovery.

Yes. I am glad though that Charles Dutoit is increasingly making a come back, even if it is in a limited sort of way. He is a conductor who knows how to balance and transform the sound of any orchestra. A rare gift.

Charles Dutoit attacks beginning in 3-2-1…

Wishing Maestro a VERY speedy and full recovery !
Ironic that Dutoit is to conduct an opera about an abused girl during which she’s predated upon by an older man! You couldn’t make it up!
