Austrians name British chief conductor
mainThe Symphonieorchester Vorarlberg has chosen Leo McFall, 36, as its next chief.
A finalist in the 204 Salzburg/NestlĂ© Young Conductors Award, Leo is a protege of Bernard Haitink’s with an Oxford music degree.
I did not know, until I looked it up, that it is the professional orchestra in Bregenz (I’m not up on my Austrian states). It might have been helpful to mention this.
It is a professional orchestra but not a full time, payed per project. Mostly mediocre concerts, although they did a splendid Mahler symphonies cycle with the Kirill Petrenko, who grow up in Vorarlberg.
Congrats Leo!! Well deserved. Looking forward to your Bruckner, Brahms, Mozart and Schubert among many other goodies with the Austrians!
Good orchestra and the reason Kirill Petrenko left Russia (his father played violin in this ensemble). KP still conducts them.
