Diva Joyce is 50 today
mainMany happy returns to Joyce DiDonato who, because she had to wait so long for opera houses to cast her in big roles, still looks fresher than two daisies on a springtime lawn.
May blessings rain upon her gentle Kansas head.
One gets the impression that you may be a superfan, Norman!
Norman chooses the people he admires wisely then. Joyce is an inspiration for her courage, dedication, commitment to her art and humanity, and the warmth and unaffected generosity of her personality.
I wasn’t disagreeing with him!
What would speak for his taste. She’s wonderful – as a singer and as a teacher and as a warm-hearted, generous and witty woman.
Tel Aviv Opera:
2000: L’Italiana in Algeri
2001: La Cenerentola
Who is this superb, wonderful, beautiful Mezzo? Nobody has heard of her.
Alas, we haven’t seen her in Tel Aviv since then. Suppose we can’t afford her anymore.
She is really the sweetest person imaginable. As a singer she has such a solid foundation, she will last forever. When she, God forbid, decides to stop singing, she will be the best teacher, ever!
Tel Aviv was prescient enough to hire Placido Domingo before he hit the big time as well, no? (not to forget Marta who sang many leading roles there as well). Good taste in Tel Aviv!
I have worked with Joyce, and she is indeed a lovely person. Happy Birthday!
Don’t agree with NL very often, but on the subjet of Ms DiDonato I have no choice, Beautiful lady, beautiful voice, great stage presence and loking nothing like her aage! Long may she continue to delight us!
Such a beautiful and moving blessing. Well deserved!
A total inspiration. The non-diva Diva. She will be a fabulous teacher when she retires but my guess she’ll get involved in all sorts of things promoting music to young people. Hopefully retirement is a very long way off.
One of the finest operatic performers for over two decades now.
