Two women hired as first associate conductors
mainEx Cathedra, the Birmingham-based choir and early music ensemble, has chosen Sarah Latto and Tori Longdon as its first two Associate Conductors, following what is described as ‘a highly competitive application process’.
A Cambridge graduate, Sarah Latto is artistic director of the young professional ensemble Echo.
Tori Longdon founded and directs the young professional ensemble Consort of Voices.
What individual, sitting in the ‘cathedra’, made the decision to appoint them, albeit after a competitive process?
I would expect Jeffrey Skidmore had a fairly major say. And hell, what does he know about choral conducting, eh?
No doubt they are already pre booked for BBC Radio 3 and 4, plus the “greatest music festival in the world” (BBC) The Proms.
