I’ve not heard Irene Theorin sing Turandot but I can attest that she was an excellent Brunhilde in Budapest a few years ago.
I fear that, on recent hearing, Nina Stemme may be working a little too hard.
She probably does work too hard, but her Brunnhilde in Gotterdammerung, which I had the pleasure of attending at the Royal Opera Covent Garden just a couple of weeks ago, was little short of sensational. She is at the height of her powers. But maybe even she deserves a break.
Stemme was fantastic in the ROH ring.
