No more Mormon Tabernacle Choir
mainIt will be known from this week as The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.
In a press release issued Friday, October 5, the Choir announced that after more than 150 years, it is changing its name to better align with its sponsoring organization, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Choir’s announcement follows a statement issued by the Church in August 2018 encouraging use of the full name of the Church.
Ah, those scare headlines. I thought they were shutting down. I should have known better.
Mormon, please stay away.
Maybe they finally realised that the second m is silent.
A solution for which there was no problem.
The elderly church elders who made this decision do not understand branding.
For years they are going to have to promote this thing as (formerly known as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir) with scare quotes around “Mormon.”
Nope, not acceptable. My standard abbreviation for the ensemble is MoTab. I can’t change that. They’ll have to keep their old name. {;-)
